Saturday Update – 21st September 2024
Week 3 of the Mixed hockey season brought a mixed bag of results for our teams with 3 wins and 3 losses.
Again the weather was very warm which isn’t always great for running round a hockey pitch !
Vikings Mixed A (4 – 2) Castletown Celts
A very hard fought game given the hot weather.
Vikings knew they had to get the 2pts to keep pace with Bacchas A at the top to the table, and a hat-trick courtesy of Alex Andrew and a goal from Will Bridson secured the victory.
Vikings A Player of the Match – Alex Andrew
Vikings Mixed B (0 – 1) Valkyrs Mixed A
Running the westerners close the whole game creating similar if not more chances than the Valkyrs first string we couldn’t quite get the finish we needed.
Despite some incredible defending by Vikings, Valkyrs squeezed one in 5 minutes from the end.
Vikings continued to push for the equaliser, but a combination of world class saves from Juan Bellando in the Valkyrs net and the Viking’s legs tiring through the match, it wasn’t to be, but every single Vikings player deserved player of the match this week.
However, with Cara literally putting her body on the line she was this week’s player of the match.
Vikings B Player of the Match – Cara Yule
Vikings Mixed C (1 – 3) Valkyrs Mixed C
The C team struggled a bit this week with limited numbers and limited subs making for a tough match against Valkyrs C.
Vikings managed to grab a goal via Nathan Evans but the attacking threat from Valkyrs was too great in the end with them scoring 3 and sealing two points for the westerners.
Vikings C Player of the Match – Charlie Morris
Vikings Mixed D (7 – 2) Bacchas Mixed C
Another tough match for the D team against top of the table Bacchas C who looks odds on for the title this year.
Missing several key players for this match didn’t detract from the effort on display from the players in black, but some smart wing play from Bacchas throughout the first half allowed the whites to rack up 5 first half goals, but a breakaway goal from Danny Kane with a superb lofted finish over the Bacchas keeper, gave Vikings a little bit of hope to finish the half at 5-1.
A more composed defensive performance in the second half limited the Bacchas shots on target, with Adam Braidwood managing to clear one off the line and make a number of last ditch tackles but the Bacchas pressure grew as the half wore on with them managing to add 2 more, but once again Vikings hit them on the break via Danny Kane to grab a second goal for the D team.
Vikings D Player of the Match – Adam Braidwood
Vikings Mixed E (4 – 3) Bacchas Bucks
Although this game proved to be a little bit more a challenge to previous games, the team worked hard and pushed until the last minute to get a well deserved 4-3 victory against a very organised and youthful Bacchas side.
Goals coming from top goal scorer Jacob Harding with another hat-trick and Oli Nandha getting his first goal this season.
Player of the match Jansen was outstanding in the match, covering almost all areas of the pitch acting as CDM, and making numerous important tackles.
Player of the Match – Jansen Montalban
Vikings Mixed U15 (2 – 0) Harlequins U15
An important win for the U15 and another valuable 2 pts putting them up to second in the table.
A great team performance with some standout performances for Amelie who kept on running till the very end making brilliant tackles and getting into space well, and Bella Lacey’s second game for the U15 showing her confidence growing as the game progressed.
