Saturday Update – 18th January 2025
Week 2 of the Mens/Ladies hockey season with mixed results for our teams this week.
Winter illness affecting many of our teams this weekend leading to some teams being a bit out of sorts due to player changes.
This week the Vikings teams mainly faced Harlequins opposition hoping to maintain superiority over one of their Douglas rival teams.

The Ladies A were back to winning ways this week with a solid 2-0 victory over Harlequins.
This a game played at a good fast tempo, and the new look Vikings Ladies A team are starting to come together nicely.
Goals from Jess Birch and Katie Errock sealed this win this week.

Vikings Ladies B (0 – 6) Castletown Ladies B
A very tough match for the Ladies B this week coming up against Castletown’s B team who have only just dropped out of the premiership.
Jo Roney stepping up to play in goal for the Ladies B team this week due to illness with a number of other faces coming in to assist due to numbers.
The Ladies B faced an onslaught from the first whistle and kept Castletown at bay for a while, but a smart hit into the box was cleverly deflected past Jo in the goal to give Castletown the lead then they added another shortly after to bring the half-time score to 2-0.
A change in formation helped matters in the second half but despite giving 100%, the relentless energy of the southerners helped them add 4 more goals with a couple being unfortunate in the way Vikings conceded.

Vikings Ladies C (1 – 1) Harlequins Ladies B
Vikings started the game strong and pushed Harlequins back for most of the first half but failed to fully capitalise on their chances, but finally with the first half drawing to a close, Jo Roney finished smartly from a recycled short corner to finish the half 1-0.
Harlequins pushed on a bit more in the second half with Vikings always looking likely to add another on the break but some smart saves from both keepers kept the scoreline at 1-0.
However, with legs starting to tire in the second half the younger Harlequins players took advantage and manage to sneak a goal to even up the match and end with a point.
Summer Ritchie in goal for Ladies C on her debut sharing a player of the match performance with Hayley Crowe.

A rocky first half for the Mens A saw them grab a couple of goals but also concede 2 to finish the first half on an even keel.
A stern half-time teamtalk and a change in structure and game plan led to a much improved second half with Vikings adding a further 4 goals without reply.

A more attacking display in the second half saw Vikings extend their lead significantly and finish the match with a comprehensive win.
Danny Kane leading the way with a hat trick and young u15 player Henry Stewart grabbing a brace with both of these players sharing the player of the match award. Single goals adding gloss to the scoreline for Bruce Gimbert and Ian Perry.
