Cup Finals and final matches Roundup

It was cup final weekend on the 13th April and final matches of the season on the 20th April which wraps up this season for hockey !

3 Vikings teams in contention for cup silverware at the end of the season with only one of the teams managing to secure a win at the end of a strong season for Vikings teams.

After narrowly missing out on the league title on goal difference in Division 1 to Ramsey, the Ladies B team were hoping to secure the plate against Valkyrs B.
A very end to end match with Valkyrs managing to control the midfield for long periods of time, with Vikings attempting to hit on the break when they could using the pace of Molly Wheeler up front.
Eventually Vikings managed to make one of their attacks count with a short corner that was well worked to the back post and tapped in by Molly to put Vikings in the lead.

However the lead was short lived with Valkyrs working their own short corner routine and dispatching a shot past Sarah Pressley in the Vikings goal to even up the scores.
Just as half time approached, Valkyrs managed to earn another short corner and again made it count, making the half-time score 2-1.

Half chances came and went in the second half with Vikings struggling to make in roads past the midfield defensive cover of Valkyrs and the game finished 2-1 to Valkyrs.

The Mens A faced old foes Bacchas A in the Cup final and unlike league encounters, the Vikings men couldn’t muster a similar performance going down to a heavy 5-0 defeat against a well drilled Bacchas side who started the game brightly, and were 1-0 up within the first 5 minutes of the match. Unlucky to not manage a league and cup double but still a very successful season for our top mens side.

Vikings Mens B were the biggest victors of the cup weekend managing to secure the Mens plate against Castletown B, Josh Kaighin and Alex Birch grabbing the goals for the Mens B side against a tough Castletown side who pushed them the whole game.

Finally our Mixed U15 side capped off their season with matches against Bacchas on the 13th April and Castletown Sabres on the 20th April.
Unfortunately the U15s were unable to continue their recent good form going down 9-0 and 5-0 respectively.

However, all season the U15s have put in maximum effort each week and shown great improvement throughout the season for such a young side.

Season statistics will be finalised and posted shortly 🙂

Thanks for a great season Vikings !
