Mixed Season Roundup – 2023

As the mixed season drew to a close at the weekend, the Mixed A team had a game that meant nothing in the terms of the Premier table but pride was all to play for.
The team played well and were 3-0 up at half-time with some lovely team goals created, this continued into the second half and a combination of good defending and great saves form the Castletown keeper kept them in the game.
However, Castletown managed to claw two over the line in the second half but Vikings were always likely to score again but the game finished 3-2 in the end.
Kim Carney, John Verrall and and a short corner goal from Darryl Jago secured the two points.
A nice game to finish the mixed season off the for the A team who finish 3rd this year in the Mixed Premier.

The B team were up against Harlequins A in the final match of the season, and were keeping an eye over their shoulder with Ramsey only a point behind them in the table in last place.
A very intense game between the two teams which resulted in a 1-1 draw with Cameron Roome bagging the only goal for Vikings.
This result secured their position just above the drop zone keeping them in the Mixed Premier for next season.

A tough match for Vikings C against league leaders Valkyrs B at QE2 started very evenly with both teams having chances early on in the match.
Valkyrs B were finding it tough going against Vikings but managed to sneak a goal and finish the half 1-0 up.
Vikings still pushed on but a quick break and a scramble in the D added to Valkyrs tally, with Charlie Bell unlucky not to register a goal for Vikings from a short corner after the ball was judged to have not left the D.
Vikings C finish the season in 5th place in Division 1 after that 2-0 defeat.

Division 2 League winners Vikings D finished off the season against Valkyrs D, and despite a depleted team they emerged victorious again with a 5-0 win.
The D team had a number of chances in the first half and eventually broke the deadlock with Rachel Ward managing to put the ball away after some dogged determination against the Valkyrs keeper.
4 more goals were added in the second half from Ash Osbourne, Ian Perry, Jacob Harding and Brayden Masterson.
That result completes a perfect season for the D team with 10 wins from 10 matches and only 7 goals conceded.

Castletown Cushags were the opposition for the E team and due to umpire availability, the E team had to play with 10 men for a lot of the game.
Cushags currently sitting in second place in the Division 2 table, quickly showed their superiority and were 6-0 up by the break.
A change around in umpiring allowed a more even match in the second half with the result finishing 8-0 overall to the Castletown team and leaving the E team rock bottom of the Division 2 league this year.

Finally our Vikings U15 team faced mid-table Valkyrs U15 in their last match of the Winter season, who defeated them 5-0 last time round.
The U15 team have improved considerably over the season and showed great determination to finish the half at 1-1 with Theo Robertson scoring a great breakaway goal.
More chances came and went in the second half with Valkyrs pushing hard against a resilient Vikings defence and Theo Hampson in goal saving well on numerous occasions.
Vikings again came back with Theo Robertson and Henry Stewart combining well in midfield and despite both players scoring another goal each, the Vikings team succumbed to some late goals from Valkyrs with the game finishing 5-3 to the westerners.
