Saturday Update – 12th October 2024

Week 6 of the Mixed hockey season it was back to league action for our senior teams.

It was a tough weekend again with only 2 wins from our 6 games across the mixed leagues.

Vikings Mixed A (1 – 5) Bacchas Mixed A

Vikings were missing a number of players who were away or injured which affected their game, but Bacchas were just better than our Mixed A team on the day.

But they’ll come back stronger with a full strength team next time.

Vikings A Player of the Match – Mia Greenwood

Vikings Mixed B (5 – 1) Bacchas Mixed B

Another awesome win by Vikings B continuing to prove their doubters wrong with a strong second half performance.

The first half Kyle Gunnion finished well early on but Bacchas had the better of the first half with some smart tackling and saves keeping Vikings ahead.
Early in the second half Bacchas equalised but this energised Vikings into action with our first penalty corner goals of the season coming courtesy of Josh (x2) and Ben Dougal, coupled with a brilliant finish from Josh Kaighain meaning we had some breathing space and held firm until the end of the game.

With only one recognised defender available today the Vikings defence held firm and came away with a huge win to carry into the next game.

Vikings B Player of the Match – Kyle Gunnion

Vikings Mixed C (0 – 3) Bacchas Mixed C

In a repeat of last week’s match Vikings C faced Bacchas C again.

A very enjoyable match in not so enjoyable weather.
A strong performance again from Bacchas to cement their position at the top of the league and leave our Mixed C team one position off the bottom of the league.

Vikings C Player of the Match – Tom Babb

Vikings Mixed D (2 – 5) Castletown Southerners

Another repeat of last week’s matchup, saw our D team up against Southerners once again.

The D team gave a much better account of themselves this week, and were only one goal down at half time with Bruce Gimbert grabbing a goal and leaving the score 2-1 at half-time.

Vikings pushed to grab more goals but were hit on the break on several occasions with Castletown using their pace to great effect but Vikings looking dangerous themselves utilising Danny Kane’s clever movement and pace up front, and a quick break led to a superb goal from Jo Roney but Southerners added to their tally to finish the match 5-2.

Vikings D Player of the Match – Morgan Braidwood & Suzie Slater

Vikings Mixed E (4 – 2) Harlequins Mixed C

With a couple of quick fire goals from Addison Heaton and Oli Nandha, the E team were looking very comfortable in the first half.

Unfortunately just before halftime, they conceded one to leave the match finely balanced at 2-1.

The second half started the same as the first with two quick fire goals from Emily Gaylor and Harry Woods from a short corner.

The E team took their foot off the gas towards the end of the match, allowing Harlequins to score one more.

Overall, another great team performance with a lot to build on ready for top of the league next week!

Vikings E Player of the Match – Sam Burrows

Vikings Mixed U15 (1 – 4) Bacchas U15

Our U15s battled hard again this weekend but fell to a 4-1 defeat to Bacchas to leave them mid-table so far this season.

Chloe McGoldrick managed to grab her first U15 goal but Bacchas were just too strong so the U15s will be hoping for a better result against Sharks in their next match.

Vikings U15 Player of the Match – Willow Heaton & Julie Conradie
