Saturday Update – 16th March 2024
Last weekend Ladies A got their biggest win of the season putting 9 past Harlequins A.
A solid attacking performance from the ladies with Sarah Blackman being clinical in front of goal in grabbing four of the 9 goals, another brace for Kim Carney, and singles for Morven Smith, Kirsty Cooper and Jen Turner with a well placed shot into the corner.
The result catapults the Ladies A back to the top of the league after Castletown A and Valkyrs A played out a 1-1 draw.
Valkyrs Ladies B put a dent into the title charge for the Ladies B after a 2-0 win.
Ladies B were a tad depleted on numbers with many of the younger club players stepping up and putting in a determined performance.
But the westerners managed to sneak a goal in each half to take all 2 points and inflict the first defeat of the season on the Ladies B team.
Ramsey A are now in pole position to leapfrog the Ladies B team into first place with their game in hand, if they win.
Ladies C put in one of their best performances of the season in a narrow loss to league leaders Castletown C.
Castletown immediately pushed forward from the first whistle but it was Vikings that broke the deadlock, via a well-placed shot in at the near post from a short corner by Jo Roney.
The rest of the half was very back and forth but Castletown managed to level the scores just before half-time.
Vikings caught Castletown out with a quick break and a hit across the D was touched in by Shelbie Gleeson to give Vikings the lead once again.
Once again Castletown fired home an equaliser half way through the second half and as the game looked to be heading for a 2-2 all draw, a long raking pass into the D was well taken at the back post by Sophie Phythian to snatch all 2 points for the southerners.
The Mens A team had another sloppy start and early on Harlequins, against the run of play, caught them completely off guard, and scored a brilliant team goal after stringing a handful of passes from one end of the pitch to the other.
The Mens A immediately pushed back but found Harlequins difficult to break down, but they managed to equalise shortly before half time with a well taken goal from Ben Dougal with his first goal for the A team.
The second half continued much like the first, Vikings had territory and possession but lacked composure.
Harlequins to their credit counterattacked brilliantly, and were a constant threat with their energy and young legs, but second half braces from Macklin and Jon Cooper turned the game on its head, both putting their previous misses behind them and a comfortable 5-1 win in the end.
Another derby match in Division 1 pitted our B and C team against each other again.
Both teams missing a few key players and the C team put in a strong defensive performance in the first half with the difference being only a single goal by half-time.
The Mens B team seemed more determined in the second half and made the scoreline more comprehensive adding a further 3 goals to equal the result from last time the two vikings teams met in the league.
Charlie Bell grabbing a brace and singles added from Alex Birch and Keane Brentley.
