Saturday Update – 16th November 2024

Week 11 of the Mixed hockey season brought a mixed bag of results for the senior teams and a week off for the U15s

Vikings Mixed A (3 – 0) Castletown Celts

Very good game from Vikings A to keep momentum going and another good victory.

All of the goals came in the first half but, but they hit the post 3 times and the crossbar once in the second half and could consider themselve unlucky not to have added to the scoreline.

One league game left and then the cup final !

Vikings A Player of the Match – Will Bridson

Vikings Mixed B (4 – 1) Bacchas Mixed B

The win meant that Vikings B team have finished as winners of the battle of the B teams in the Premier League with a clean sweep of wins against Bacchas B.

At half time with the score finely balanced Vikings took the game by the scruff of the neck and although Bacchas maintained a goal threat throughout the match, Vikings worked harder as a team when they lost the ball restricting Bacchas clear cut chances on goal.

A first goal in the top flight from Dani Murphy, and first goal of the season for Morven Smith meant the points were secured and we can call ourselves the best second string in the top flight.

Multiple different people earned votes for POM but it went to Josh Dougal who twisted multiple Bacchas players inside out and drove forward with purpose and defended well when we lost the ball.

Vikings B Player of the Match – Josh Dougal

Vikings Mixed C (5 – 3) Bacchas Mixed C

The C team managed to get 2 more points on the board against Bacchas C which hands the Division 1 title to Castletown Southerners.

A tough and well contested match led to the half-time score a very close affair at 2-1 to Vikings.

Second half and Vikings pushed on to secure the win with Josh Dougal grabbing a hat-trick and a goal apiece for Josh Kaighin and Faye Williams.

This result keeps the C team in Division 1 for next year with the D team consigned to relegation.

Vikings C Player of the Match – Charlie Morris

Vikings Mixed D (1 – 9) Castletown Southerners

Always going to be a tough affair against the league leaders who were intent to make their chances count and claim the league title.

The southerners were 6-1 up by half-time with only a consolation goal for Ian Perry to Vikings name.

A more solid performance in the second half restricted Castletown’s chances but they still managed to squeeze three more goals to finish the game 9-1 and claim the league title.

Vikings E Player of the Match – Eilis Kerford

Vikings Mixed E (3 – 4) Bacchas D

Vikings E were hoping for a good result against Bacchas D to keep pace for the league title but slipped to a narrow defeat against Bacchas.

Sam Spooner managing to put away two fine penalty corner goals to bring the score to 2-2 but Bacchas caught Vikings cold with two quick goals in the second half to extend their lead.

Another Vikings short corner routine led to a flick goal from Adam Braidwood, but despite a string of penalty corners in the second half, Vikings couldn’t make them count and slip to one point behind both Bacchas and Cosney in the table.

All to play for next weekend where the E team will be hoping Harlequins can hold Bacchas D and the E team can beat Cosney !

Vikings E Player of the Match – Jacob Harding
