Saturday Update – 9th November 2024

Back to league action in week 10 of the Mixed hockey season with a change around in fortunes for almost all our teams with wins for all Mixed teams except the D team.

Vikings Mixed A (3 – 1) Valkyrs Mixed A

The best that the A team have played all year, great team performance and the result was thoroughly deserved.

Standout performance from Ben Dougal on his debut getting the Player of the Match award, and a big shout out to Elena Caley as well for playing so well.

Vikings A Player of the Match – Ben Dougal

Vikings Mixed B (2 – 1) Valkyrs Mixed A

Tough start to the match for the Vikings second string, with Valkyrs taking control early on.

However, once the B team had got into their stride the chances start coming but they couldn’t quite finish owing to a couple of goal line saves from Valkyrs defenders.

Second half Vikings got 2 goals before Valkyrs could reply and were holding out well but conceded late on in the second half to make the last 5-10 minutes a bit nervy but they held out until the end.

Alex Birch player of the match today covering every blade of astro driving the team forwards turning over possession every time he got near the ball and defended incredibly when on the back foot.

Vikings Mixed C (3 – 2) Vikings Mixed D

A fiery derby match with both pride and points at stake led to a very close match between the two Vikings teams.

Both teams missing a few key players and the D team held the C team at bay before succumbing to 2 quick goals.

A stern half-time team talk for the D team seemed to have the effect, as they fought back with goals from Danny Kane and Jo Roney to bring the scoreline level.

However a late penalty corner for the C team led to a shot just creeping under the stick of Will Hampson in goal and giving the C team a narrow victory which all but resigns the D team to relegation this season.

Vikings Mixed E (10 – 3) Harlequins Mixed C

An excellent result for the E team this week, battering Harlequins 10-3 to secure a vital 2 points in the race for the Division 3 title.

The E team were on the front foot from the start but struggling to make their chances count and when they finally got their first goal, they conceded almost immediately after.

This pattern repeated again with Vikings grabbing a second to then concede again shortly after to leave the first half with a 2-2 scoreline.

However, this pattern shortly changed after half-time with Vikings taking the lead early in the second half, and then grabbing 3 quick goals before Harlequins managed to sneak a goal back for 5-3.

After this, Vikings never looked back managing to add a further 5 goals and racking up their biggest win of the season.

Oli Nandha picking up 4 goals this week and the evergreen Sam Spooner smashing in his first ever hat-trick.

Vikings Mixed U15 (3 – 2) Ramsey Roookies U15

The U15s secured another 2 pts against Ramsey in a very end to end game.

Dillan Pullman having an excellent game on the left wing and grabbing his first U15s goal this weekend, with further goals from James Baker and Ffinlo Kimber to secure a great win for the U15s.
