Saturday Update – 20th January 2024

A blustery stormy last weekend caused the cancellation of a number of matches including the Ladies B match, but other brave souls played out their matches around the island with our teams achieving 3 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses.

The Ladies A team still sit on top of the Premier table by one point from Valkyrs A after a hard fought win over Bacchas A.
Morven Smith stepping up from the Ladies B team and scoring a brace with Kim Carney adding a third for Vikings.

Our Ladies C team chalked up their first win of the season against Ramsey B in an evenly contested match, with Vikings making their opportunities in front of goal count when needed.
Short corner routines were working well for the C team with the first goal disallowed for a shot that was too high, but Jo Roney made amends from the next one and hammered a shot past the Ramsey keeper to put Vikings 1-0 up by half time.
The C team pushed up hoping to add to their tally but left themselves open to a number of counter attacks, which were well dealt with by the Vikings defence and Lily Mildwaters in goal.
Finally the C team got their second of the match after a tackle in midfield, and through ball from Morgan Braidwood was put away by Sarah Pressley to make certain of the win.

Vikings Mens A were the big winners of the weekend with a comprehensive 8-2 win over Bacchas B to maintain their position at the top of the league.
They elected to play into the strong winds at KWC for the first half hoping to keep energy reserves for the second half.
By the end of the half Vikings were 3-1 up with the advantage of the wind behind them for the second half in which they grabbed another 5 goals with only one in reply.
Jon Cooper grabbing a hattrick, John Verrall with a double and Alex Andrew, Darryl Jago and Josh Dougal grabbing a goal apiece.

Unfortunately our Mens B team suffered a large defeat against Ramsey A at the weekend.
The Ramsey team currently sit second in Division 1 now and this result leaves the B team third in the league, with Josh Kaighin grabbing the only goal of the game for the B team.
The Vikings derby is next up for the B team as they meet Vikings C on the 3rd February at the NSC.

Vikings C were unlucky not to come away with 2 points from their match against Castletown B.
Atrocious conditions at KWC made for a very tough match which was a fairly even contest with the first half finishing 0-0.
A very back and forth match continued in the second half, with a number of good saves from Will Hampson in the Vikings goal keeping the scoreline at 0-0 until a Vikings break was well finished by Jacob Harding giving Vikings hope of a valuable 2 points.
Castletown continued to push hard against the Vikings defence, and a short corner strike looked to be going wide before taking a rebound off the post wrong footing the defence and allowing Castletown to score an equaliser.
The game looked to be heading for a draw, though Vikings thought they had scored a late winner from Richie Gelder which was then ruled out for dangerous play.

Finally our U15 team faced up against Ramsey U15 and even though this was a very even affair with Ramsey just edging the first half at 1-0. Vikings pushed back against an experienced Ramsey team, but ultimately ran out of energy in the second half, allowing Ramsey to score an additional 2 quick goals with Henry Stewart of Vikings grabbing a solitary goal in reply.

This weekend our Vikings teams have a break from league action with the first round of the Cup, Plate and Bowl.

Good luck Vikings !
