Saturday Update – 27th January 2024

Cup competitions took centre stage this weekend for all of our senior Vikings teams except for Mens A and Ladies C who have a bye into the next round.

The Ladies A put Castletown B to the sword with a thumping 6-0 victory in the Ladies Cup, with Vikings having the best of the game and the Castletown keeper having a great match to keep the scoreline just at 6-0.
Once again Kim Carney leading the line with 2 goals with single goals for Zoe Crowe, Dani McIntosh, Elena Caley and Mia Greenwood.
The Ladies A come up against Bacchas A in the next round.

Our Ladies B team came away with a great result as well this weekend, defeating Ramsey A 2-0 in their Plate match.
Last time in the league the B team were held to a 4-4 draw against Ramsey, but this time a standout player of the match performance from Morven Smith with a brace of goals sealed victory for the Ladies B.
A great team performance throughout and the Ladies B face a tough match against Bacchas B in the next round.

The Mens B team were up against Harlequins B and came away with a narrow 2-1 victory to seal their place in the next round.
The match was a closer affair than the league match earlier in the season, with Vikings suffering with a few injuries to players but they held out to win with goals from Ben Dougal and Brayden Masterson.

The final cup match of the weekend saw Vikings C come up against Castletown C, and Vikings had to contend with a number of players unavailable and having wholesale changes in defence.
The changes did not seem to affect the Vikings team, but they struggled to make the most of their chances in the first half with only a penalty corner goal from Adam Braidwood to show for their efforts.
A shift in mindset in the second half seem to push Vikings on, and they were soon 2-0 and then 3-0 up with goals from Jacob Harding and Ash Osborne beginning to make the game more comfortable for Vikings.
The Mens C team then added further gloss to the scoreline with Bruce Gimbert calmly slotting past the Castletown keeper midway through the second half, and then Ash Osborne showing great composure to round the keeper and finish on the reverse stick to finish the scoring.

Our only league match of the weekend saw our young Vikings U15 team face a very experienced Bacchas U15 side and once again a great effort by the young Vikings, but the experience of the Bacchas team showed with a heavy 8-0 defeat.
Once again the Vikings team showed great heart and battled until the end.

League matches resume this weekend with top of the table clashes for Ladies A and Mens A against Valkyrs and a Vikings derby in Mens Division 1 between our B and C teams.

Let’s keep it going Vikings.
