Saturday Update – 26th October 2024
Week 8 of the Mixed hockey season and again just the A team managing to come away with 2 pts this week.
Vikings Mixed A (4 – 0) Valkyrs Mixed B
A frustrating first half for the A team with more composure needed in the second half.
Vikings found it difficult to find space with Valkyrs playing extremely defensively but a better second half from the A team.
Better off-the-ball movement and hard work from the Vikings players opened the game up and allowed the A team to ease to victory and make the top 4 after the league split.
Vikings A Player of the Match – TBC
Vikings Mixed B (1 – 1) Castletown Celts
Again another very close game against an established premier league first team showing the B team are back to normal after a blip.
Vikings B could have won it were it not for the opposition goalkeeper pulling of three great saves towards the end.
Although it was a game Vikings deserved to win it was nonetheless an awesome result.
Players of the match Jess Birch and Ryan Hogan as the two centre-backs often dealing with overload situation perfectly slowing down the game to allow others to get back and cover.
Vikings B Player of the Match – Jess Birch & Ryan Hogan
Vikings Mixed C (1 – 2) Valkyrs C
Another close game for the C team with them finishing the wrong side of another 2-1 result.
The C team coming undone with a brace from Chris Thomas of Valkyrs condemning them to another defeat.
Brayden Masterson adding plenty of energy and work rate in the midfield, but it wasn’t to be for the C team this week who will be hoping for a better result in their upcoming derby match against the D team.
Vikings C Player of the Match – Brayden Masterson
Vikings Mixed D (2 – 7) Bacchas Mixed C
The D team faced the league leaders in Bacchas C this week and again were short of some key players but put in plenty of effort in the first half and a brace from Danny Kane kept the scoreline 3-2 at half-time.
But the D team couldn’t keep the momentum going and despite some determined defending from Morgan Braidwood making a number of crucial tackles, a few unlucky moments led to some quickfire goals from Bacchas with the scoreline finishing 7-2 which wasn’t a fair reflection of the match.
Vikings D Player of the Match – Morgan Braidwood
Vikings Mixed E (2 – 5) Castletown Cosney
A top to the table clash for the E team and another end to end match against Castletown opposition.
The E team played well but weren’t able to make it count against the Division 3 league leaders and found themselves 3-0 down by half time, despite some outstanding saves from Poppy Gerrard in the Vikings goal.
A better performance in the second half with goals coming from Sam Spooner and Emma Hayes gave some hope for Vikings but Castletown added another 2 themselves with the match ending 5-2 and all but ending hopes of a league title for the E team.
