Saturday Update – 3rd February 2024

It was Vikings vs Valkyrs for most of our teams last weekend with a Vikings Mens derby match also thrown in for good measure.

Once again the Ladies A team came away with two points to remain top of the table.
Many of the Vikings teams were short of players this week leaving no subs at all, and the Ladies A were no exception, but they ground out a hard fought 1-0 victory against Valkyrs with Zoe Crowe grabbing the only goal of the game.
The Ladies team sit two points clear of Castletown at the top of the Ladies Premier.

Ladies B also came away with two points from their match against Valkyrs, a very end to end game at times with Vikings using the pace of Molly Wheeler in midfield to try and hit Valkyrs on the break.
Two goals from Georgie Higgins secured victory for the Ladies B team, with one of the goals coming from a well worked short corner routine, and a solid performance from young Lily Mildwaters in goal for Vikings.
The Ladies B team are now on equal points with Ramsey A but sit second in the table only on goal difference.

Unfortunately, our Ladies C team could not complete the Valkyrs whitewash falling 4-0 to the westerners.
The Ladies C team were very depleted on numbers and struggled to cope with the intensity of the Valkyrs team but still put in 100% effort. There was also a great performance by Poppy Gerrard on her debut in the Vikings net making a number of great saves.
The Ladies C currently sit just 5th in the table and face a tough prospect against league leaders Castletown D this weekend.

Our Mens A team returned victorious from Peel this weekend, grabbing a win against Valkyrs A to remain top of the table. The A team going 1-0 up courtesy of Darryl Jago rounding the keeper from a saved short corner, before Jon Cooper added a second with a well converted cross at the near post.
Vikings then seem to step off the gas, and conceded soon after half-time and with 10 minutes remaining, the score was 3-3 with Darryl Jago adding another goal from a short corner.
However, just as the match looked to be heading for a draw, a stunning reverse stick shot late in the game from Nathan Evans secured victory for the A team to leave them 3 points clear at the top of the Mens Premier.

A Vikings derby in Mens Division 1 between our Mens B and Mens C team was a feisty affair.
Both teams down on numbers and struggling to just about field a full team, but that didn’t stop a very competitive match with the C team determined to put in a good performance against the B team.
A very back and forth match to begin with, with the B team eventually putting on more pressure throughout the half, and going ahead courtesy of a well placed strike in off the post just evading the stretch of young Will Hampson in the C team goal.
The C team also went close having a short corner flick well charged down by Tom Babb.
Going into the second half, the B team were using their young strikeforce to put pressure on the C team defence.
The game remained at 1-0 until very late in the game, and after numerous short corner routines were successfully defended, the B team managed to convert a well worked routine via Charlie Bell, and then pounced on a number of rebounds to put another 2 goals away in a short period of time to add some gloss to the scoreline.
The Mens B and C teams currently sit mid-table with both teams having tough fixtures this weekend facing Valkyrs B and Ramsey A respectively.

With snow supposedly on the way this week, let’s hope all matches still go ahead !
