Saturday Update – 2nd March 2024

Cup, Plate and Bowl semi-finals day last Saturday with all of our teams in action.

Ladies A were hoping to exact some revenge after defeat to Bacchas A last week in the league.
A tough encounter between the two teams with Bacchas taking a 1-0 lead into the half-time, but a stronger second half allowed Vikings back into the match with goals from Sarah Blackman and Kim Carney, but despite a tense finish to the match it ended in a draw at 2-2.
Flicks ensued with Bacchas prevailing 3-2 in the shootout which takes them through to the final against Castletown A.

Bacchas B were the opponents for our Ladies B team, and again this was a very even match between the two teams.
Both teams had numerous chances to score in a very end to end first half, but only Bacchas managed to make one of their chances count after a recycled short corner led to a shot clipping off the goalkeeper’s arm and managing to find the bottom corner of the net.
A rousing team talk led to the Ladies B team pushing on stronger in the second half, but many more chances in front of goal went begging, but just as it looked like the game was going to finish 1-0, a well worked 1-2 at the top of the D led to a cross fired into to Morven Smith who finished expertly past the young Bacchas keeper to level the game at 1-1.
As with the Ladies A match this game finished in a draw and the game went to flicks.
Sarah Pressley in the Vikings goal managed to only let one flick get past her, whilst the young Bacchas keeper was beaten twice by Morven Smith and Katie Errock to secure a place Plate final for the Ladies B team against Valkyrs B

The Ladies C team knew a tough prospect was ahead in their Bowl semi-final match against league leaders Castletown D.
Once again the Ladies put in a determined performance but found themselves 2-0 down at half-time.
A change in tactics in the second half allowed more attacking threat, but unfortunately left them a little exposed at the back and the game finished 6-0 in the end.
Castletown D move onto the Bowl final against Ramsey B.

The Mens A had a Cup final place in their minds as they faced Castletown A this weekend.
A strong first half performance put the Mens A in a great position as they finished the half 2-0 to the good.
They didn’t have the match all their own way, with Castletown grabbing a goal back but Vikings also added to their tally and the match finished 3-1, a brace from young Alex Andrew with Mackin Wilson also getting on the scoresheet.

Mens B knew they needed to be at their best against Ramsey A, with the northerners already chalking up two wins against the Mens B in the league.
However, a tremendous performance from the B team including an outstanding display in goal from young Tom Babb created an upset, as the Mens B sent Ramsey crashing out of the Plate with an emphatic 3-0 scoreline.
Goals from Ben Dougal, Charlie Bell and Josh Kaighin sealed the win for the Mens B who face Castletown Mens B in the final.

Castletown Mens B were the opponents for the Mens C team, a draw was the result for these two teams when they last faced each other in the league but a place in the Plate final was at stake this time round.
A very end to end match ensued with Vikings causing Castletown some problems on the break, but they found themselves 2-0 down at the half way stage.
A breakaway goal in the second half from young Jacob Harding gave Vikings a glimmer of hope, but Castletown managed to convert a couple of well worked team goals to win the match 4-1.

Finally our U15 had a repeat of the fixture from last weekend facing league leaders Valkyrs U15.
Missing one of their key players this time round was always going to make things more difficult, and unfortunately this led to Vikings U15 biggest defeat this season at 14-0.
However, once again the effort and improvement for the U15 team is great to see.

Back to league action for everyone this week !
