Saturday Update – 10th February 2024

A mixed bag of results for our teams this weekend, with only our Mens A and Ladies B teams coming away with victories.

Ladies A had a crunch match against Castletown A, who are breathing down their necks only two points behind in the table.
A very competitive game with both sides determined to get the two points and Vikings keen to keep their winning streak going.
However, the Ladies A team were 1-0 down by half time and had to push hard against against a determined Castletown team. They were rewarded with a late goal from Zoe Crowe to even up the scores and to maintain their position at the top of the table, two points above Valkyrs A who move above Castletown into second.

The Ladies B team picked up their biggest win of the season so far with a crushing 6-0 defeat of Bacchas C in Division 1.
Molly Wheeler adding 2 goals to her tally for the season, with a brace also from Katie Errock and further goals from Kaitlin Slack and Georgie Higgins making a comfortable win against a Bacchas team containing many younger players, who put up a good fight, but ultimately could not lay a glove on the Ladies B team, with any chances Bacchas had on goal expertly dealt with by Lily Mildwaters.
The Ladies B team currently sit top of Division 1 by a point with a game in hand on Bacchas B.

Our Ladies C team had the unenviable task of facing league leaders Castletown D, and unfortunately went down 4-0 with the southerners showing no mercy in continuing their winning streak in Division 2.
A man of the match performance from young Poppy Gerrard in goal for Vikings kept the scoreline down, but this match was always going to be a very difficult one for our Ladies C team.
The Ladies C face Ramsey B in their next match, and will be hoping for a winning performance after their previous 2-0 victory over the northerners a month ago.

The Mens A team continued their Premier League dominance with a 6-2 demolition of Castletown A to continue their wining streak, and remain 3 points clear of second place Bacchas A.
However, due to a slack start to the match and some errant passing, they found themselves 1-0 down early on to a deflected short corner.
They did manage to turn things round by half time though after great work in the midfield by the Dougal twins and a deft finish from Alex Andrew, followed by a well worked short corner finished by Steven Crowe.
Vikings then pushed on with another goal from Steven Crowe via a short corner, but Vikings succumbed to a penalty flick shortly after which brought the scoreline to 3-2.
More pressure was piled onto Castletown throughout the second half, with the rolling substitutions having a good effect, and Vikings started to dominate the midfield and further goals were added from Macklin Wilson, Jon Cooper and Alex Andrew.

Mens B also had a difficult opponent in table topping Valkyrs B, however, our Mens B team pushed the westerners all the way in a very tough, close game which could have gone either way.
Unfortunately for our Mens B, Valkyrs just pipped them with one goal being enough to separate the teams, leaving Valkyrs still top of the table and our Mens B team mid table in the league.

Ramsey A were the opposition for our Mens C team, who knew this would be a difficult prospect, and that they were always going to be up against it in this fixture.
Straight from the off Ramsey piled on the pressure and were soon 1-0 up after some well worked passing at the top of the D, and a smart finish into the corner from Tom Howard. A flurry of short corners were well defended by Vikings but 2 more goals were added during the half to leave Vikings 3-0 down at the break.

The second half started well for Vikings, with a number of promising pushes up the field, but once again Ramsey hit back and scored another 2 goals in quick succession after piling on the pressure.
A final goal was added late on via a recycled short corner to leave Vikings the wrong end of a 6-0 defeat.
Vikings Mens C currently sit 4th in Division 1 with their next match against Castletown B, where they will hope to get some more points on the board.

Finally our young U15s were in action against Castletown Sabres, once again the young players put in maximum effort and at times are starting to show big improvements in their individual and team play.
Theo Roberston finding the net for the Vikings team but this wasn’t enough as they fell to a 4-1 defeat to the southerners.

School half-term is upon us this weekend with a break in fixtures, league matches resume on the 24th February with maybe some postponed matches to be fitted in before then.

Enjoy the weekend off Vikings !
